Labuan FSA Issues Guidelines on the Establishment of Marketing Offices in Kuala Lumpur and Iskandar Malaysia
Labuan Financial Services Authority (Labuan FSA) on 5 March 2014 issued guidelines on the establishment of a Labuan company's marketing office in Kuala Lumpur and Iskandar Malaysia, effective immediately. They supersede the Guidelines for Establishment of Marketing Offices in Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru, which was previously issued on 14 November 2003 and allows marketing offices to be set up in those two locations only.

The guidelines, which extend the establishment of a Labuan company's marketing office to cover Iskandar Malaysia, the main southern development corridor in Johor which includes Johor Bahru, will also liberalise some operational requirements in line with current needs and practices. For instance, a Labuan company setting up a marketing office is no longer required to submit a half-yearly report comprising the organisational chart and business activities.

All Labuan companies, including those licensed under the laws relating to financial services in Labuan International Business and Financial Centre (Labuan IBFC), may apply to set up a marketing office in Kuala Lumpur and/or Iskandar Malaysia. The role of the marketing office is limited to facilitating meetings with clients and establishing contacts with potential clients of the Labuan company. No maintenance of books and records (including trading activities) shall be done through, from or in the marketing office.
