ASEAN Roadshow 2016: Labuan IBFC - A Natural Choice for Growing ASEAN Businesses and Private Clients (Myanmar)
Southeast Asia is the world’s most economically vibrant region. Further fueled by the economic integration through the ASEAN Economic Community, the rising prominence of high net worth individuals and its proximity to major markets, the ASEAN region beckons as a catalyst for growth.

Our ASEAN Roadshow 2016 will examine how Labuan IBFC centrally located in Asia, boasting a 25-year track record, stands out as an ideal midshore jurisdiction from which to house your regional operations and manage your private wealth.
Chua Wei Min is Director of ZICO Trust Limited. She specialises in the areas of trusts and foundations and legal and regulatory compliance on activities carried out at Labuan IBFC.

She is a consultant with the ZICOlaw network of ASEAN law firms and related services which regional hub is in Singapore and member firms and other associated service providers are in Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, Phnom Penh, Yangon, Vientiane, Melbourne and Sydney.

She advises on Labuan trusts and foundations for both commercial and private use. This includes corporate trust advisory for restructuring purposes and the use of orphan trusts for sale and leaseback and asset securitisation transactions, and private trust and foundation set ups for family wealth and estate planning.

Wei Min was one of the lead external consultants in the law reform exercise undertaken by the Labuan Financial Services Authority in 2007 to revamp the regulatory framework of Labuan IBFC which translated into 8 new and revised Labuan acts in February 2010. As a key member of the network’s Labuan legal practice, she advises extensively on the use of Labuan entities as a tax-efficient vehicle for asset holding, tax planning and private wealth management purposes. She also advises on regulatory compliance issues on financial activities in the Labuan IBFC as well as the establishment of private equity funds in Labuan.

Farah Jaafar-Crossby is currently Director of Market Intelligence and Content Creation at Labuan IBFC Inc. She has spent her entire career working in the Malaysian capital markets and financial services sector. Having started her career as an institutional dealer for both the equity and derivatives market, she then shifted gears and moved on to become a Specialist Writer at the Corporate Desk of Malaysia’s oldest daily.

Farah’s legal training and capital markets background kept her in good stead as the General Manager of the Association of Stock Broking Companies in Malaysia. She then moved on to the role of Head of Marketing Communications for Bursa Malaysia, Malaysia’s sole stock and futures exchange. Aside from promoting the exchange regionally, she was actively involved in the exchange’s demutualisation exercise and its subsequent floatation exercise.

Adjusting her remit to the promotion of an entire jurisdiction, Farah's current challenge is to generate a better understanding of the unique aspects offered by Labuan IBFC via her service at Labuan IBFC Inc, the promotional arm of the Labuan Financial Services Authority. She looks forward to further developments in Labuan IBFC specifically, and the changing landscape of the financial services industry generally.
